Hi! Welcome to my first newsletter
It's been a long time coming.
Growing up, I unconsciously loved books and new knowledge and would always ask questions about something. I fancied myself quickly in my academics and often pushed myself to take on textbooks meant for my seniors instead. Looking back, I can hazily remember trying out Waec past questions when I was in JSS 1 I think. Can’t really remember. This is not a story about academics, but a story about writing instead.
My uncle recently reminded me of how I used to tell stories (mostly about tortoises and all) and how I even tried writing songs, and stories. Despite all of this, I still wonder why it has taken me more than 2 decades to finally do this writing. Well, it’s 2024, let’s start the new year right.
Plot twist: This newsletter isn’t really about writing or the emotional discourse of finding a lost passion. It’s my selfish way of publicly learning and exploring my interests. For now, that interest will be Data Science and hopefully, leading to Artificial intelligence. Don’t get too excited, I might change to tailoring tomorrow.
Why did I pick up this interest?
Recently, I have become fascinated by the immense potential of Artificial intelligence and how it can change the world. But more importantly, I have succumbed to peer pressure to join the moving train on the future of work: Data. In this newsletter series, I hope to share with you, weekly, whatever I have learned in data. Please expect to see basic elementary stuff like carrying out arithmetic questions with Python functions or pretty interesting stuff like a summary of what I’ve just read from the NEJM AI. I’m a newbie in this- writing and data, but I hope you can help me learn shamelessly this interest(s) of mine.
So what’s up this week?
This week I will like to talk about some of the new and interesting (for me) topics I learnt in Python. I recently found a tweet by Dayo Ajisco where he shared a stepwise list of courses to get started or transition into ML/AI. So far, I have completed the course playlist by Nicholas Renotte on YouTube where he carefully explained the basics of learning Python- from installing jupyter notebook to variables, lists, dictionaries, conditions, loops, functions, classes and writing/reading from files. I loved the explanation by the way. My jupyter currently looks like this:
I’ll work on naming my files better next time.
Afterward, I moved to the YouTube course compilation by Jovian ml. I have completed 2 out of the 6 courses, but I think Jovian really helps with giving more practice questions that actually help you know that you really know what you think you want to know.
This newsletter is getting longer than I wanted it to be. But I think you get the gist. See you next week for more exciting or boring content on my progress so far.
Live long and prosper,
Oluwakorede.
(Watch Star Trek or Big Bang Theory if you don’t understand the salutation)
Curtain closes…
Well, this is not a bad article after all. See y’all!
